Super Justification

Justification. I am the king of justification. Whether it is justifying on how badly I need something and the money used for it to be legitimate or whether it is an occasion to go overboard on food. It seemed that even before I changed my lifestyle, I looked forward to those occasions. When you feel badly about how you eat or how you do not take care of yourself, those days are your days to say that you deserve it. The only happens once a year, right? I used to eat Super Bowl quantities of food EVERY day….but on Super Sunday, it was OK in my mind.

So many people use the Super Bowl to go crazy. Bob Wright of Hilton Head Health gave statistics on their daily blog about how many tons of chicken wings would be eaten on Super Sunday.

Does a lifestyle change mean no more wings? Does it mean no more indulgences at all? Of course not. If you deny yourself completely, you will be setting yourself up for binges and situations you will later regret. I do think that a lifestyle change means you should moderate yourself even on those days. Find some healthy alternatives to take up some of the bulk but still enjoy those favorite items.

If you are like the guy below, I hope you planned for it. I hope you do not find yourself in a situation where you regret where you allowed yourself to go. No matter if it is an event like a Super Bowl party, a holiday with family or just a comfort food day, plan for it. When you plan for it, you have an understanding of what you will allow yourself and can govern your behavior on that. It should be no different than a goal when you hop onto a treadmill. You get on knowing what you want to accomplish from a time, speed and distance perspective. When you reach that goal, you are done. Treat these special events the same way but know what ‘done’ is before you get into the situation and have a pile of bones 8” high on your plate. Plan, regulate and move on. If you follow that, you will not be where you beat yourself up. You will not put yourself into a mental hole. You are living the change.

Living Live Swimming In Tears!

I liked matching a living live song up to something on my mind so much last time with the (non) global warming theme that I decided to do it again.

I am a Minnesotan. I bleed purple. I just happen to live in Wisconsin. That changes nothing.

There's this guy...named Brett Favre. He is an OK QB that has retired twice. (Al might argue that he is starting to look like Garth Brooks). Editor's note: The Orracle likes to imagine what Al might think.

Anyway, this clown, whom I have never liked cannot make up his mind. He wants to retire, he wants to play. He cries when he retires. He cries when he decides to come back. He needs therapy.

Commuting to the cities, I see so many Cheesehead Rubes (not to be mistaken for "The Rube") with the "G" license plates. I think they need a new plate for Packer fans with a tear on it next to a number 4. Honestly Brett, grow a pair and stop the sniveling.

So, for the crybaby Brett, here is Roy Orbison singing Crying. P.S., I looked for an old 80's one hit wonder song called CRY but could not find it because I do not know who sings it. Oh well, Orbison is the bomb.

Today's Notes

I think it was a fun day here in rainy Seattle, WI. Todd's (CIO) 40th birthday surprise. Pimping Ashlie's band stuff at work. Rushing home (a challenge with today's traffic) to get to the last NR football game.

These poor kids play their heart out. They won just one game this year. I think we have talent but the coaching is terrible. Reminds me of my coach in high school.

A girl from Ashlie's marching band was hit by a car in town tonight...rumors flying around did not sound good for her. You have to cherish every minute of your life and the people around you >>>> because one day, *poof*.

Big party on Saturday. Anyone want to come and help finish up the remaining tasks around the house? I am running out of time.

As you can see, no big news today....nothing "grinding my gears". Biggest decisions today were whether or not to take the back roads to avoid traffic (did not and should have) and whether or not we should go to Vegas in November.

Speaking of Vegas, if someone can lend me $100,000 so I can treat Jessa to front row seats at the Hattfield-Mayweather fight. She loves boxing and it is on my birthday (12/8 for those still shopping) so it really would be the perfect gift. Cash is accepted or tickets can be purchased directly from http://www.stubhub.com/boxing-tickets/?event_id=456104

What "Drains My Battery" for 10/17/07

The trend for football players to have the tuft of hair hanging out of their helmet! Troy Polamalu of the Steelers, Al Harris of GB and now a plethora of others. Last year, Polamalu was tackled by his hair. He was upset about it and I am sure it hurt. If you don't like it, don't give the opponent the option and cut it off or tuck it in your helmet.

Perhaps this is very myopic to the big picture. Perhaps I should only judge them on how they play the game. Perhaps that is beyond my capability.

The problem for me is that I link that look to discipline. I think of Tom Landry. I think of Bud Grant. Tight, disciplined teams.

Bring back the old days. Tough players that looked clean.
